No-one Left Behind
A client came to me with a painful story to tell. He had been deployed with the British Army presence in Afghanistan, during which time, he had suffered a traumatic loss. While on patrol, the armoured patrol in which he was travelling had been targeted, leading to ten of his comrades being killed outright. As if that wasn't enough to carry, he was plagued by constant dreams in which his senior officer returned to him, asking him to help in recovering one of their comrades.
His dreams had become nightmares. Most nights, he was plagued with the belief that he had to fix the loss of one of his comrades who was unable to move on to the next life, without whom his comrades would not move on either. His sense of helplessness wasn’t due to pressure from his comrades, but from himself. He had learned from the earliest days that their group relied on their taking care of each other, even into their final rest. So, he came to me for advice on how best to resolve a situation he felt he could not change.
Sometimes, people get caught between one life and the next. The reasons why are as numerous as the people who get caught. Sometimes it’s that for them, there is unfinished business; a puzzle remains to be answered, a hurt remains to be healed. Sometimes, it’s because their passing was so traumatic that they were not able to find a way through. That was the case in this situation.
One of their number wasn’t able to move on because he was so traumatised, so distraught from the manner of his own death that he couldn’t make sense of the way forward. Luckily for him, his comrades refused to leave him behind, seeking aid the only way they knew how, by returning to the one comrade they believed could help.
For me, assisting a spirit in moving on is a simple thing; somewhere in Spirit, there is someone who can help, someone who can show a way forward and lend a hand to find peace. It was simple matter to find those who could help, so allowing all my sitter’s comrades to find peace together. Their final reminder to my sitter was that they’d be there for him when he needed them, because as they reminded him, no one is left behind.
